Christmas Cultural Events -- Kid Friendly?

I have this sugar plum vision in my head this year -- I would like to take my kids (or at least Brooklyn) to some kind of Christmas play or musical performance. Growing up, my mom often took us to "Christmas Around the World", a dance production done by students at Brigham Young University. Last year, I went with friends to see the world-famous Radio City Rockettes. My only regret was that I didn't bring Brooklyn, as it turns out, I think she would have really enjoyed it. Does anyone know of a kid-friendly production of "A Christmas Carol", or something else that would be fun for our family? I'm almost thinking something small, and local, like a high school production would be sensible; but I don't know what the kids might like.

Also, if you're ready to kick off the holiday season this Saturday is the Milwaukee Holiday Parade. We went a few years back and really enjoyed it. If the day is warm enough that the kids can be comfortable when bundled up, it's pretty fun. We'll probably head down if anyone is interested in joining us. It starts at 9:30am at the intersection of Astor St. and Kilbourn Ave. It travels west on Kilbourn Ave. to Old World 3rd St, where it turns south for a few blocks to Wisconsin Ave.

  1. Hey, Nicki;

    Did you see the flyer from the Wauwatosa Children's Theatre Program? They're doing "A Christmas Carol" at Tosa East High School (7500 Milwaukee Ave.) at 2 pm on December 19th. Tickets are $4 and the performance lasts just over an hour (for those squirmy little ones who lose the love early on). I've never attended one of these performances, but have heard great things about them. Let me know if you decide to go.

  2. I'm terribly late viewing/responding here, but the Nutcracker is actually wonderful for kids that like that kind of thing, if you're willing to pay the money. Also, they have the Kinder series at the symphony during Dec. but I'm not sure the prices on that. I will let you know when I see info for the next kinder show at Mke symphony.
